Due to the high infection of Coronavirus, Joko Widodo decided to continue implementing PPKM (Pemberlakuan Pembatasan Kegiatan Masyarakat) level 4 from July 26 to August 2, 2021. The government will make certain changes to community activities and mobility, which will be implemented gradually and with good caution. Aside from the people's market, the regulation also applies to small businesses.
As long as PPKM Level 4 is in effect, restrictions are in place on several sectors. First, marketplaces that sell daily essentials are permitted to operate as usual while complying to strict health protocols. The second is concerned with the activities of small merchants and other small businesses. According to Jokowi, small businesses are permitted to operate with strict health protocols until 21.00. Then, refers to the operation of food stalls, street vendors, hawker stalls, and the like, or in open areas where businesses are permitted to open with strict health protocols until 20.00, with a maximum meal duration of 20 minutes for each guest. The last point is related to public transportation being enforced with a maximum capacity setting of 50% by applying stricter health protocols.
During the implementation of PPKM, food merchants offer more promos to attract the public which can be seen mainly through the food delivery service. These promos or discounts are usually followed by terms and conditions such as minimum order. For example, the food merchants offer 60% discount with Rp40.000 as the minimum order. Therefore, people will be able to get the discounts after purchasing Rp40.000 or more.
Besides that condition, there are also food merchants who offer discounts with no minimum order, but is replaced by a maximum discount given. As an example, the food merchants will give them a 60% discount up to Rp24.000 with no minimum order. Thus, if the 60% discount is more than Rp24.000, people will only get a Rp24.000 discount.
These strategies have created positive impacts as orders for both food merchants and food online delivery drivers increased. However, Jokowi urged the public to stay cautious against the spread of the coronavirus, particularly the deadly Delta variant. "Nonetheless, we must proceed cautiously in responding to this rising trend. We must always be on the alert for the extremely infectious Delta variant "added the President.
