metaNesia by Telkom: A Milestone for the Development of Virtual Economy



Internet has influenced the emergence of innovations on people's life in many ways. One of the innovations is metaverse. Metaverse is a shared, online 3D space where users can interact with each other and with computer-generated objects and avatars. This is used for various purposes such as education, training, online gaming, and more.


Following the other countries, Indonesia has made its way to contribute in the metaverse world. On July 31, 2022, Telkom, one of state-run telecommunications corporations in Indonesia, launched its new technology called metaNesia (Metaverse Indonesia). metaNesia is a metaverse platform that combines augmented reality and virtual reality to accommodate not only large companies, but also micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) get their new business opportunities. This is expected to become a milestone for the development of virtual economy in Indonesia.


In recent years, the businesses started offering their services to clients both online and offline. Telkom combined these two approaches by creating metaNesia. With this innovation, Telkom believed that it could create value for them to be a better service to its current customers and draw in new ones. It is also very easy to get in the metaverse world. In order to be able to explore the features on metaNesia, users must download the application first and register their accounts. Users could interact with many interfaces with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as the core technology.


metaNesia and its incredible features led Telkom to receive the "PERTAMA DI INDONESIA" award. CEO Media INFOBRAND Group, Susilowati Ningsih, who gave out the award to Telkom, said that metaNesia is the first in Indonesia to offer the metaverse ecosystem to reach a wider market. The challenge that Telkom must face now is to expand collaboration with brands that have the potential or interest to enter the metaverse world. Metaverse ecosystem is indeed a good place for developing digital marketing, especially after the introduction of metaNesia that could be a bridge to businesses and their clients.
